British Midland International (bmi) has announced it will be offering complimentary cakes and hot meals to passengers in its Economy class.
The airline will be offering freshly made cakes to passengers booking as Flexible Economy on all UK, Hanover and Ireland flights. Complimentary hot food will also be introduced for economy passengers on the carrier’s European flights, making bmi the only scheduled airline to provide such a service to economy customers.
The cakes available to passengers are said to include lemon drizzle cake, carrot cake and victoria sponge, and these will be served up on all flights departing between 10am – 12pm and from 1.30 – 5pm. The hot food included in economy ticket prices will take the shape of a hot breakfast wrap, served on flights leaving before 10am, and a hot lunch wrap served at lunchtime and for an evening meal.
The airline will also offer all economy passengers free hot and cold drinks throughout the flight – another exclusive for the UK carrier.
“We have listened to what our customers want and their valued feedback has helped us to deliver new changes to our menu,” said Joerg Hennemann, bmi’s chief commercial officer. “Our freshly made cakes in particular are a delicious and very welcome addition to our onboard service. Plus we will be the only scheduled airline to offer a complimentary hot food service in Economy Class on European flights.”
bmi also announced it would be adding to its services departing from London Heathrow, with a new daily service to Nice in France commencing on August 25. bmi currently offers cheap flights to Orlando, New York and a huge range of other US, European, Middle Eastern and African destinations from London and regional airports around the UK.
