InsureandGo, the UK’s largest travel insurance specialist has warned holiday makers to take extra caution when they are checking in their luggage.

The situation regarding lost baggage is now in a complete mess and the company want to make sure that all travellers are fully covered for loss when they travel.

Research shows that 10% of adults in the UK have lost their luggage in the last two years which has led to 31% of travellers admitting that they do not trust baggage handlers.

It is important to not just rely on tags from the airline or airport. Everyone should have a form of travel insurance that covers them in the event of lost luggage. Another idea is to put your own tag on there that will not just fall off, that says the destination that you are going to should it get lost.

If you are not travelling home, then it is important not to put your home address on there as you do not want people knowing that you are not going to be there. All luggage should be locked properly and highly visible. It is also important to keep any valuables that you have with you in hand luggage.
