Passengers looking to fly out of East Midlands Airport are being urged to be extremely careful when it comes to booking flights with easyJet.
easyJet announced earlier this month that is would be withdrawing from the base and only offer services up until the New Year.
However, legal issues have mean’t that complications are occuring. The airline are still selling tickets for dates beyond the new year and will have to continue doing so.
This is because easyJet’s plans are subjected to a 90 day consultation period to protect the 120 staff that are facing redundancy.
Unfortunately, nothing can be done to amend this, including cancelling the flights. Several other carriers are already voicing interest to take over the airlines landing spots.
EasyJet has gone public with the issue as they are worried about the backlash from customers. They therefore want passengers to be fully aware of what is going on.
EasyJet would be breaking the law if they started to issue refunds before December.
Until after the consultation period is over, easyJet have warned customers to be careful and be aware of the risks when booking flights for after Christmas.
For people who have already made bookings for 2010, the advice is to sit tight on their reservations. It is being rumoured that passengers will eventually be able to choose between a refund and changing their departure airport to London Luton.
