EasyJet today agreed to buy GB Airways excluding its flights through Heathrow Airport. They are buying the Gatwick based airline for £103.5 million.

This means that the franchise agreement that occured between GB Airways and British Airways will stop from March 2008. The deal between the 2 airlines is expected to be completed within the next 8 weeks.

Flights will still operate the same way and passengers can choose to be rebooked with easyJet or receive a full refund. At the moment, GB Airways operate 28 routes from Gatwick, 6 from Manchester and 5 from Heathrow. easyJet can now have the valuable take off and landing slots. easyJet will operate 24% of the slots in Gatwick and will fly over 8 million passengers across 62 routes.

EasyJet believes that this will strengthen their customer service and is looking forward to the merge between them.
