Airline World 2009 Regional Rankings Reveal Flybe as Market Leader and only UK Airline in the Global Regional Top Ten

Flybe, the UK’s Number One domestic airline, is today celebrating having hit the global aviation world big time by scooping a number of accolades in the annual Airline Business Regional Rankings, namely:

* Europe’s number one regional airline, ahead of the likes of Aegean, Lufthansa CityLine and Air Nostrum.

* Number 8 in the world measured by annual revenues and number 11 in the world in terms of passengers carried.

* The only regional airline in the world’s top 10 who is neither owned by a bigger airline nor operating exclusively feeder services for a bigger airline and therefore truly independent.

The recognition is tangible evidence of how far Flybe has progressed since its formation in July 2002 and is follows hard on the heels of the recently published results for the financial year 2009/10 which showed Flybe as one of only three major European airlines to have posted a profit throughout the recession.

Mike Rutter, Flybe’s Chief Commercial Officer, says: “We are absolutely delighted to receive such high validation of the position Flybe has reached on the international aviation stage.  Flybe is now very clearly a global force in aviation and is proud to sit alongside airlines like SkyWest, American Eagle and ExpressJet, who truly are industry giants.”

Adds Mr Rutter: “What is particularly gratifying is that these rankings show that an independently-owned airline, who doesn’t rely on providing feeder services for the ‘big boys’ can make its mark on one of the world’s toughest and unforgiving industries.”
