Manchester Airport has begun talks with airlines to discuss who is going to take Ryanair’s place after the company decided to axe 9 of the 10 routes that it offers thanks to high airport charges.

Jet2 added three new routes to Venice, Gran Canaria and Kos, while easyJet and bmibaby are still discussing if they will make any moves.

From October 1st, there will be 44 open slots a week that the airport need to fill.

Original fears of 600 local jobs being lost and now gone after the airport stated its confidence of replacing all of the routes.

Ryanair has pulled back from a few UK bases recently in favour of regional bases as they charge lower airport fees.
