Virgin Atlantic are making changes to their baggage policy to make it less confusing for passengers.

From 25th November 2009, baggage details on flights to America and the Caribbean Islands will become a lot clearer.

The current policy allows Economy passengers to have two pieces of luggage weighing up to 23kg each but when added together, the three dimensions of one piece of luggage cannot exceed 158cm (62 inches).

Premium Economy passengers have the same restrictions, however they are allowed 32kg per bag. Upper Class passengers are then allowed 3 pieces of luggage, weighing up to 32kg each.

However, from November, the airline has decided that the size does not matter and they will just concentrate on the weight. Economy passengers are allowed one bag per person weighing 23kg. Premium Economy passengers can take 2 bags each weighing 23kg and Upper Class passengers can take up to three bags each weighing 23kg.

Virgin Atlantic believe that their new baggage policy is one of the most generous in the industry. Passengers will benefit from lower charges for additional bags and a better allowance for sporting trips.

For sporting trips, passengers can take one 23kg bag for golf clubs or surf boards. Skis can be checked in at no extra charge during the winter season.
